How we started
Disc.golf.her was started by Lizz Acosta and partnered by Gladys Ortiz. Lizz has always been interested in issues concerning women in sports, and the voice for women in disc golf at that time was barely a whisper. Also, pro woman on the road were hard pressed to earn enough in tournaments to continue their tour. Fighting for women's issues is the core of disc.golf.her and Lizz has many battle scars from T.D.'s all around the nation to prove it. (You should see their scars!) Disc Golf was introduced to Lizz in 1995 and quickly became all consuming. In order for Lizz to be able to tour playing disc golf tournaments on the weekend, while still making money during the week while traveling, another form of income was needed. Also, the lack of female presence on the disc golf course needed to be addressed. One night in a Kansas city restaurant, Lizz mentioned the idea to Gladys and her fiance Travis and they got excited over the name. Logo's were drawn on napkins, a mission statement was created and discgolfher was made real.
